The Island “La Reunion” is situated in the Indian Ocean south from the continent of Africa and close to the island Madagascar. The capital city of the island is Saint Denis. The Island “La Reunion” has a population of 784 000 habitants. Most of which are creoles. 
La Reunion is an oversea department of France counted as a region of France such as those on the continent of Europe. It is Saint Denis that has the biggest economic structures and therefore the unemployment is lower than in all the other cities. The main agricultural product for export is sugar. Beside it tourism is another important income source. Although it’s economic activities the island is highly dependent on aid from continental France.

The island is 2512 square kilometers and has a volcano “Piton de la Fournaise” that has erupted more than 100 times for the last 300 years for which now is under a constant monitoring. The other volcano “Piton des Neges” is 3070 meters above sea level and is northwest of the “Piton de la Fournaise”.
The capital of La Reunion is situated in the northern part of the island. It is the center of all commercial, political and administrative structures. The architecture is Creole and can be found not only in the city but also on the main roads streaming from it. In Saint Denis tradition and modernism live together in harmony making it one of the most picturesque cities on the island.
