Flora and Fauna

The fauna and flora on La Reunion is rich and colorful. The first inhabitants of the island brought many specieses both animals and plants. Nowadays the island has hundreds of of palms, flowers and the people who live there are famous with their love for gardens and parks for recreation. Some of the special species are the Bourbon latanier palm, and the undergrowth of the Heights abound with wild orchids.
The local animals - mainly birds and turtles have been pronounced for extinct for the ariving people have used them for food at large. Althought it has kept a few original species, such as the elegant tropicbird, the national bird of the island, which nests in the cliffs near the ocean; the “'Papangue'", a bird of prey that circles in the basins and ravines; or even the Java deer, which frolic about in the medium altitude forests.

The ocean as well is full of life no mater close or far from the shore. The reef “slope” provides a habitat for coral fauna and flora that gives to divers a picturesque view of the sea. Beyond the reef is the kingdom of the large fish, some of which are the Blue Marlin, Common Dolphinfish, Sailfish, Tuna, Barracuda.
